W3: Ready & Willing: Psychological Preparation for International Aid Work
Recommended for prospective first time international aid workers & volunteers
This one day workshop is designed to raise awareness and prepare less experienced aid workers for the range of psychological adjustment and psychosocial issues involved in the pre-departure, assignment and returning home phases of aid work.
Participants will learn the basics of stress and trauma management strategies; assess personal and contextual risk factors for a particular assignment; practice interpersonal and intercultural relationship strengthening skills and develop personal management plans for increasing aspects of resiliency and coping.
This workshop has been delivered as a component of organisational preparation for departure courses and can be tailored to meet the needs of a particular organisation or delivered to a group of staff, volunteers or students at a time and location convenient for the group.
